Our AIR International program is for global artists who want to relate their work to an environment for inspiration, interaction or research. In this two month work period we ask you to research the environment and centering it around your own work. The environment generally refers to the city of Breda and in particular the district where Witte Rook is located, the Liniekwartier. We see this as a way to exchange cultural views, as well as a mirror to see our own environment through the artist’s method.
We invite international artists to stay at Witte Rook for a period of two months. During the working period, in consultation with the resident artist, there will be an open studio moment in which curators, organisers, artists, and other relevant interlocutors will be invited to meet the resident artist and their work. At the end of the working period there will be a conversation with an artist / writer. This interview will be published on our website, along with a visual blog post showing the results and series of descriptions and notes about the resident. The presentation of the physical results of this working period consists of a set-up in the workspace lasting two weekends. In return, the resident artist shares the results of the working period on Witte Rook’s online platform in the form of publications.
