In soundscape ecology a sense of visceral connection is created between humans and our understanding of the ecological dimensions and health of an ecosystem through it’s sound. Biophony, geophony and anthrophony have been isolated as it’s main components, Phytophonica adds in a speculative dimension of plant impact.
Without anthropomorphizing the plant kingdom, Phytophonica is an exploration and attempt to create a visceral connection to and a rational compassion for our companion species; those who have preceded and will most certainly supersede humanity.
At Witte Rook, Helga built new devices that amplify the bioelectricity which showcases the inner life and vibrancy of that which they’re connected to, and have been ruminating on Bruno Latour’s assertion that there is no better way to understand than through the ‘resounding echoes of all the other bodies’.
