AIR Donglai Meng

Donglai Meng (Marta) works at Artist in Residence at Witte Rook.  Donglai was born in Dalian, China and currently lives and works in The Netherlands. She describes herself as a multimedia, conceptual artist.

“I position myself as a psychologist artist combining psychoanalytic theories with painting, text, video, etc. My research is closely related to the spiritual world of human beings. My inspiration comes from my dreams, psychoanalysis, Asian feminism, subcultures in younger groups, and online hot topics. In my works, one part is to explore the spiritual world of people inward, and the other is to explore the connection between real society and human psychology. I like to combine the products of reality with the elements of fantasy, walking between logic and nonlogic to create a dream-like scene to reflect the real states of existence.”

Starting December 2nd 2019, she works towards an exhibition of her work called ‘Midday Dreaming’. The exhibition opens January 25th, 2020.
