Open call AIR Internationaal (EN)

Artist in Residence Witte Rook is looking for internationally operating artists for the 2022-2023 residency program.

Witte Rook’s AIR international program is intended for internationally working artists who relate their work to an environment for inspiration, interaction or research for the duration of a two-month residency. Internationally operating artists refer to practices in which contemporary issues surrounding internationalization play a role. Think of themes such as digitization, sustainability or inclusion. The environment generally refers to the city of Breda and in particular the Liniekwartier district. Witte Rook is literally and figuratively on the border between the fast, urban life and the intimate of a multicultural working-class neighbourhood. Through the artist’s artistic methodology we look at our own environment with new eyes and establish a dialogue.

The residency consists of a two-month work period on location, an introductory program with relevant discussion partners, including curators, organizers and artists, and an open studio moment. At the end of the work period, there is a conversation with an art professional, which is followed by a publication on the online platform. We expect the artist to share the process in the form of visual results and a series of descriptions or notes. In consultation and with editorial support, this will be published online to develop digital story structures in art and to engage the public. At the end of the residency there will be a presentation with an opening of two weekends and a special activity in consultation with the artist.

For whom

For artists whose practice focuses on the issue of the environment in an international context. Describing, articulating or registering the process is also an important aspect that we want to show on our online platform, with special attention to the position you take as an artist with regard to digitization.
