Werkperiode van Anne Kolbe, Nancy Green en Fay Oberdorf in de StadsGalerij in oktober

Van 2 tot en met 22 oktober zijn drie kunstenaars bij ons te gast in de StadsGalerij te Breda. Anne Kolbe (Rotterdam), Nancy Green (Eindhoven) en Fay Oberdorf (Breda) zijn geselecteerd uit de vele inzendingen van onze Open Call en zullen deze periode gebruiken om nieuw werk te maken, een verdiepingsslag aan te gaan en om elkaar en Breda beter te leren kennen tijdens dat proces.

Eerder voerde Witte Rook een artist in residence programma op de Stationslaan 111 te Breda waarin internationale kunstenaars, lokale kunstenaars en kunstenaars uit Nederland of België uitgenodigd werden om een tijdje te komen wonen en werken. Ondanks dat onze oude locatie helaas niet meer bestaat, kunnen we in ons huidige programma op een iets andere wijze nog steeds ruimte bieden aan werkperiodes voor experiment en reflectie. 

De werkperiode van Anne, Nancy en Fay zal worden afgesloten met moment voor publieksontvangst. Houd onze socials in de gaten voor data, openingstijden en updates.

Anne Kolbe
Anne Kolbe behaalde haar BA in fine art aan Sint Joost (Den Bosch) en haar MA in fine art aan het Piet Zwart Instituut (Rotterdam). Sinds 2013 is haar werk in Nederland te zien geweest in solo- en groepstentoonstellingen, bij o.a. Showroom Mama, Melly, Brutus, Studio Omstand en De Nederlandse Cacoafabriek. Sinds 2018 is ze woonachtig en werkzaam in Rotterdam, waar ze actief betrokken raakte bij diverse kunstenaarscollectieven (Kunst & Complex, De Boog, Resister, Radio Worm, The Voluntairy Fire Brigade of the Apocalypse en Stichting B.a.d). Periodiek geeft ze het lifestyle magazine SCHANDE uit, dat zich richt op de Rotterdamse kunstwereld, naar het model van bladen als ‘Party’, ‘Privé’ en ‘Anoniem’.

Nancy Green
Nancy Green is een kunstenaar die momenteel in Nederland woont. Haar werk kan worden gezien als een voortdurend onderzoek naar haar eigen anatomie als individueel en universeel. Het onderzoeken van verbindingen tussen het zelf, als lichaam, en de materialen en ambachten die zich in zijn baan hebben ontwikkeld. Werken bestrijken zowel de materiële als de onuitgesproken elementen van het materiaal en de vorm. Beeldhouwen via textiel, gieten en digitale media zijn manieren om deze verbinding en ‘mapping’ tussen de onbekende configuraties van het lichaam te bewerkstelligen.

Fay Oberdorf
Fay Oberdorf is een textielontwerper en design historicus (sinds kort) wonend in Breda. In haar textiele werken maakt ze gebruik van de natuurlijke eigenschappen van materialen en manipuleert ze traditionele textielconstructiemethoden in een poging om tweedimensionaal textiel ruimtelijk te maken. Ze benadert textiel vanuit materiaalonderzoek en verwondering, waarbij de materiaaleigenschappen de vorm bepalen. Haar werken verleggen de grenzen van het textiele medium en zijn opgebouwd in driedimensionale, vaak meerlaagse structuren die spelen met transparantie en tactiliteit – in materiaal en kleur. Naast de visuele en tactiele eigenschappen van de materialen kunnen de stukken een functionele rol vervullen.

Working period Anne Kolbe, Nancy Green and Fay Oberdorf in the StadsGalerij in October

From October 2 to 22, three artists will be our guests in the StadsGalerij in Breda. Anne Kolbe (Rotterdam), Nancy Green (Eindhoven) and Fay Oberdorf (Breda) have been selected from the many entries in our Open Call and will use this period to create new work, to deepen their knowledge and to better get to know each other and the city of Breda during that process.

Previously, Witte Rook ran an artist in residence program at Stationslaan 111 in Breda in which international artists, local artists and artists from the Netherlands or Belgium were invited to live and work for a while. Even though our old location unfortunately no longer exists, we can still offer working periods for experiment and reflection in a slightly different way in our current program.

The working period of Anne, Nancy and Fay will end with a public reception. Keep an eye on our socials for dates, opening hours and updates.

Anne Kolbe
Anne Kolbe obtained her BA in fine art from Sint Joost (Den Bosch) and her MA in fine art from the Piet Zwart Institute (Rotterdam). Nancy Green
Nancy Green is an artist currently based in The Netherlands. Her work can be seen as a constant inquiry into her own anatomy as individual and universal. Exploring connections between the self, as the body, and the materials and crafts which have evolved to be in its orbit. Works cover both the material and the unspoken elements of material and of the form. Sculpting through textiles, casting and digital media are ways into this connection and mapping between the unknown configurations of the body.

Fay Oberdorf
Fay Oberdorf is a textile designer and design historian based in Breda, the Netherlands. In her textile works she utilizes the natural behavior of materials and manipulates traditional textile construction methods in an attempt to elevate two dimensional textiles. She approaches textiles from material research and wonder, where the material properties determine the shape. Pushing the boundaries of the textile medium, her textile materials are built up into three dimensional, often multilayered structures, playing with transparency and tactility – in material and color. In addition to the visual and tactile properties of the materials, the textile pieces can serve a functional role.
