Yoel Pytowski (1986) graduated from the LUCA school of arts and the school of visual arts La Cambre in Brussels, Belgium.
Through in-situ installations, Yoel Pytowski situate the space and it’s questioning as a central narrative element of his work, convoking in each place constructions, destructions or reconstructions.
During the last five years, his practice has focused mainly on large scale architectural installations. By introducing new physical elements, or by creating voids in space, in an attempt to blur the comprehension of a pre-existing space where then elements — mostly in concrete — seems to emerge or sink within the floor. An ambiguous situation arises then where it becomes sometimes difficult to discern the work of the artist. What to look, where are we, what was here before and since when?…
Yoel won the Jan Naaijkensprize 2018 and as part of the reward his WKNDX at Witte Rook will take part from August 5th – 15th. The opening of the presentation will be August 16th, 19.30u at Witte Rook.
