The travels of Marta Polo: Hairy-legs chicken

Artist in Residence Donglai Meng schreef tijdens haar residency travel notes genaamd ‘The travels of Martha Polo. Tijdens haar expositie publiceren we dagelijks een van haar notities.  

The fantasy of Valkenberg’s free spirit quickly obtained the corroborating evidence. When I stood on a hidden path covered with fallen leaves, I was blocked by a rooster. It was firmly standing in the middle of the path, holding its head upright and its golden eyes looking at me, the uninvited guest. Its beautiful brown-red feathers sparkled in the sun, and beneath them were two brawny hairy legs. A hairy-legs chicken in the park? I had to say that this was the first time I have seen a wild hairy-legs chicken in the city. I was completely attracted by this amazing animal. When I got closer, the chicken suddenly rushed towards me, it appeared at my feet in the blink of an eye, and the sharp beak pecked at me fiercely. I was frightened and fled in confusion.
